AppDictions App Review
They say print is dead. This may be or may not be true, but there’s no denying literature is finding new platforms to thrive on. Very modern gadgets now provide options for reading e-books on them. And what’s even more impressive is that not just new novels are available for reading on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Even classics that have been on print for decades are available on these—bigger and better than ever.
Tell Tale Heart is one of Edgar Allan Poe’s greatest works (and one of my personal favorites), and now Diehard Studio Entertainment has adapted it for the iDevices. This iconic horror tale has become a cult favorite, and there’s no doubt it will gain a new generation of fans with their foray into high technology.
This new retelling, Tell Tale Heart HD, is bone-chillingly vivid. The application has a very talented team behind it: illustration by veteran artist Dwayne Ferguson, and performed by talented actors Hunter Wolf and Janet Hubert. They’ve combined forces to create a world that jumps out of the screen with color and wonder.
Wonderful illustrations breathe life into the classic story; the painting-style graphics enhance the eerie atmosphere giving it a look that is both dated and timeless. In addition to the amazing voice talents, haunting sound effects keep the mood creepy.
Navigation within Tell Tale Heart HD is smooth and hitch-free. It is incredibly easy to maneuver—there’s not much to navigate in a linear story-telling, but the application keeps it easy and straight-forward anyway.
For first-timers in Poe’s world, there’s no better introduction than this, especially for those who are reluctant to invest the time in the written text. For those who are long-time fans will be glad to know technology hasn’t butchered another classic this time. In fact, expect to find new angles in this story to love.
An interactive, fully painted and fully voiced retelling of the classic Edgar Allan Poe horror tale. Illustrated by Mutant League television series art director Dwayne Ferguson. Fully-voiced by Janet Hubert (co-star of the hit television series Fresh Prince of Bel Air) and Hunter Wolf.
