Word Poker Live Free is a word based Texas Hold ‘Em app for iPhone and iPad. You can play against other players online in real time and place bets just like you would in a regular game of poker.

The app works exclusively online so you need to have access to a wireless connection each time you want to use it. Once you get connected to a game, you have the option of selecting custom avatars, changing your display name and chatting with other players.

Players can bet, call, check and raise their cards as well as bluff their opponents. Although similar to traditional Texas Hold ‘Em, Word Poker is different because it uses words to determine how many points you get and ultimately whether or not you win a match.

Each card in your hand is assigned a point value and your objective is to make a word with the other cards on the table that has a higher point value than the words created by other players in the match. It does get tricky at times especially when you’re playing against other players who are good at calling your bluffs but once you get a good combination of words you begin to notice patterns that can help you outsmart your opponents.

There’s also an in app store where you can buy chips and avatars. You can purchase each avatar using chips collected from each game or use real money to make a purchase. The achievements section of the app allows you to unlock achievements based on the word combinations you use and rewards you with chips depending on your achievement level.
