PalettePro App Review

AppDictions App Review

Artists would know how difficult it is to mix and match colors from real life to the computer. Sure, there are tools on the computer, but none that are so mobile that you can use them anywhere and anytime.

860Media must have had these artists when they designed their new offering for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The application, named PalettePro, allows iDevice users to sample colors from anywhere they are and save it on their gadgets.

The concept of this tool is simple—the best ones usually are. Sometimes people spot a color that they would have for a project or practical purposes. What you can do with PalettePro is take a picture with your gadget from within the application, select the color from the image and allow the app to isolate the exact hue you wanted. It couldn’t be any simpler or more straight-forward; this is a tool that even the most technologically-impaired person could get the hang of it after a few tries.

The interface of PalettePro is just as simple as its concept. You won’t have a difficult time navigating the application. There are very few things to do anyway, you wouldn’t have to. This is an application for practical purposes, so it does not actually need a lot of features apart from its primary one.

One note you have to keep in mind is to be careful of the lighting in the image. Sometimes, the light (the amount or the placement) in the picture changes the shade of the colors, so that the isolation might not capture the exact hue you wanted it to. For more accurate results, make sure that the photograph you captured is as close to the real thing as possible.

Check out PalettePro at the App Store for $0.99.

iTunes Description
PalettePro allows users to take advantage of the iPhone or iPad camera to sample colors from subjects and store those RGB or CMYK color schemes for later use.

Web developers can use this application to sample real-life colors and use them in their apps.

Another use is to sample a color seen to later match for matching paint at the home decorating store or for a web developer matching colors for a web site design.

NOTE: The camera's color sampling will vary based on your lighting. If the surface is highly reflective the results may not be as you expect. The same is true in very low-light conditions.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.Requires iOS 4.3 or later.
