Finally, retro games are now being modernized and made available for our iPhone or iPads. One example of a classic is NORTH  & SOUTH – The Game. Now the Civil War game we used to love, returns with better controls and gameplay on the iPad.

First released on 1989, NORTH & SOUTH – The Game has been a hit with Atari, DOS, NES, and the likes. With a different group of developers this time around, the game has improved a lot and made suited to the iPad. The civil-war based game is given the “same old brand new” look to fit  modern mobile requirements.

NORTH & SOUTH – The Game App Gameplay:

If you have played the first release of NORTH & SOUTH – The Game, you shouldn't find it too difficult to adjust to this version. If you are a newbie, it wont too long either. The main plot is based in the American Civil War, where the Union (or known back then as the Northern States) are against the Confederation (which is the Southern States). Using your best strategies (just like the old times), your goal is to win the war.

Additional features of this Civil War Game include:

  • Lots of mini-games which keeps the thrills coming
  • Players have the option to choose whether they will side with the Northern or Southern armies
  • Solo or multi-player is available as well.
  • Gameplay for first timers would be easy to follow. Mastering it is a different matter

While we appreciate the sensitive touch controls, steering our soldiers, these may be a little too sensitive and take some time to get used to.

NORTH & SOUTH – The Game App Appearance & Layout:

Retro style graphics and illustrations may remind many of player of the game's origins, but modernized to best fit the iPad's resolution.  There is a few options that may be customized prior to beginning play. The icons and navigation are large and legible, with even beginners being able to find their way around without too much of a struggle.
